hello for the past week my cpu has been acting a lil strange. when i'd click on a desktop icon or shortcut it would take about 15 extra seconds for the file or folder to open, i guess i ignored the issue. now, when i click a folder, icon on my desktop or even the start menu the entire cpu freezes, an hour glass pops up and stays up, i can still move the mouse but cant click anything, i can't even ctrl, alt, delete. i have to illegally shut down--yank the power chord out. i did a full virus scan and nothing was found. i ran spybot and it found 1 reg. threat, eliminated it, i restarted but obviously that didn't solve the problem. strangely i did a system restore and there's no restores before yesterday when my cpu started freezing. that's strange, i just did a restore a week ago and i had several different restore points...i usually end up doing a system restore every couple weeks and i've never encountered this problem (no restore points before this date).
it seems to be a problem when clicking desktop folders, icons, shortcuts but when i click on a link in toolbar or start menu it still holds that icon down like it's stuck key and it still takes an extra 10 or 15 seconds longer than usual for it to open. i have 2 % free space on drive c but that's 2.5 gb so that shouldn't be an issue. i recently deleted files, i haven't installed anything new. a couple times when it froze and i was able to go to the start menu to shut down it seemed to hang on Explorer (end task now).
thanks very much for your help!

It sounds like you need to defragment your hard drive. If its badly fragmented, you may want to run chkdsk. As for your system restore problem, if your hard disk runs out of space system restore will be suspended. If you right click on my computer and click system restore it will tell the status of system restore.
