I tried a disk cleanup using the "disk cleanup" function but it wouldn't delete all the files. No matter how many times I try it there still 34,868kb still left. Just in case your wondering....yes I check the box to include old compressed files.

I there a way to do it manually? If so, please tell me a step by step on how to do it. Thanks in advance.

What compressed files/folders are you trying to delete? FYI Disk Cleanup doesn't delete every compressed folders especially Windows Updates.

I didn't know that. Would they be included in the total "old compressed file" number that shows in the box after one runs a disk cleanup?

It doesn't delete "old files", it compresses them. If you want to del old files do a search for *.old and del them.

DiskCleanup searches for Files which haven't been accessed in 50 days

It then will Compress them if you Check the relevant box

They will be 'decompressed' as and when they are accessed again

As far as I can make out - this feature is only useful if you are short on HDD space

And then you have another choice. Remove the listing from the Disk Cleanup windows with a registry modification. If you are not familiar with the registry, please ignore this reply. At Run type Regedit to open the registry. Click the + on the following folders: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Windows/
CurrentVersion/Explorer/VolumeCaches/CompressOldFiles.
Click on CompressOldFiles and highlight the Default entry in the right pane. Depress the Delete key then click on Yes. Back your way out of the registry (clicking on the "-" (minues) and close the registry. Restart the computer. Next time you open Disk Clean, Compress Old Files will not be there. Record this value: (B50F5260-0C21-11D2-AB56-00A0C9082678) to reinstall if you want Compress Old Files back.
