I have cleaned, defrag (and the defrag for some reason took forever like 3 hours), virus scanned this computer and it is still slow. When I type it skips or it takes a few moments for my typing to catch up. Videos are choppy and the sound from the moment the computer starts to when it is shut down is staticky or takes a while to come on. Sometimes the cd/dvd player comes out without any reason (i do not touch the button). I love the play videos online and I dont know why it is not working anymore. Sometimes internet explorer or firefox crash or stop working and I got to end it. I cannot open more than one window at a time nor work in more than one thing at a time. Every page takes more than necessary to load be it online or anything else. This laptop is over 5 years old, but cannot afford a new one so wondering what could be happening. I tried to go do a diagnostic though HP help but it wouldn't allow me to for some reason. Any suggestions? Thanks!

382MB RAM? Is that a typo? If it's not, you don't see it as a problem?

Have you scanned for viruses, spyware, malware? Run a cleaner such as CCleaner-Slim or Glary Utilities-Slim? Have you run MSCONFIG & disabled all the useless crap from loading at startup? Do you still have all the HP bloatware installed?
