I am trying to do a clean install with xp since my new tb went down tonite well i got it to install on my old hard drive that i whipped out before. well i started getting the windows could not open cause of hardware config problems bs

swimmerbhs, each iteration of XP uses it's own unique set of stuff and since M$ has had so many piracy problems, it checks. Chances are you need original, verifiable M$ discs to keep everybody happy. A copy of an old installation looks for that installation's stuff. HTH. Ed in Texas.

i have contacted hp before these happened 2 years ago and they dont have the disks anymore
this isnt the original hard drive that came with the computer

Sorry. You need to start again and properly describe your problem. What is a new tb? and what do you mean it "went down"?
What kind of instal disk are you using and what exact error message do you get and at what point in the installation process do you get it? Of what relevance is your reference to an old harddrive? Why do you need to reinstal the operating system? Describe the crash. Are you certain it was a software and not hardware problem? If it is on the HP system listed in your heading do you have and were you able to instal HP system drivers? Is it a HP disk you are installing from or a retail XP disk? If so what version?
