Comment:

I would be upgrading from win98, and wanted to know whether it would be better to format the c: and clean install. This version of win98 was particularly buggy, so I was wondering if this would be the best way to keep it from transferring those to XP. No worries about backing up, everything I want to keep is in a internet storage locker. Any ideas? Suggestions greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Clean install is always the best way. Make sure you have all of the drivers and you run the hardware compatibility checker.

I would do a clean install. I've usually had some type of problem doing an upgrade.

Clean install is always better. I tried to do just an update but XP had problems finding all the right drivers. I formatted and then installed and it found all drivers. I've not had any problems since.

One more thing I forgot to ask in the first post: can I use the win98 boot disk to install; or make an XP boot from another computer?
Thanks.

The XP CD itself is Bootable - make sure you have CD-Rom to Boot first in BIOS
