Citrix application window

I have a WinXP laptop running citrix ICA client 6.30. When I log on to the citrix server on the LAN everything looks OK. But whenever I connect to the server via a analog phone line, the ICA client connects, but it doesn't open a application window. The connection manager says its connected, but I can't see the application.
I create a VPN with SSH to connect to the server. I can ping the server and everything. Does anyone know where the problem lies??
