I have a set of computers that i am the admin for. I am running a program that cant access all of its functions without running in admin mode.
how can i be in a limited account and run the one app in admin mode perminitly

What's the program that needs to be in Admnistrative account? Are we talking about Webroot?
Pretty damn stupid, isn't it?
Beauty of the high sierra,
and she's looking out for you.

It is one program that students need for resumes, job searches, and things of that nature. I cant let them be in admin mode but i need to program to have all of its functionality, wich means in admin mode

Couple of things I have done in the past, if you are running a Domain Controller you could make them admin on the local machine but not the domain or you could find the registry keys that the app is requiring and change the permissions on those keys. It's a painful process but their are some tools out there to help determine wich keys you need to change. One is regmon. It will monitor registry activity and log it for you. While running the app it will log all of the reg access so you could go back and see what keys need to have the permissions changed.
AlohaDESPERATION is the mother of invention

Thank you for the advice, I am not a domain controller but i will try the program and see what happens from there, i will keep you updated just incase

Google can't find anything related to Choises 2005 software. Are you sure you typed in the correct software name?
i_XpUser

Windows XP
Choices 2005 is a software used for students who are looking for what job they would be good at. Vocational schools and government Facilities use it. Its for Highschool and Post Secondary students in collage.I need to get just the application by some type of permission that i cant find to run on any user account with out needing to be an system administrator.
Is there a set of permissions that i can give the program access too, like read write and exacute so it will be fully c--tional.
Ps. Its Choices 2005 Not Choises 2005 that was my typing at it's worst. If any one knows how to do this please let me know.

It dos not matter what the software is, i just need to know is there a way to do a perminate run as admin for specific programs that require it to run correctly.

Do you know what the RUN AS command is in xp so you can be in limited mode bur run an app like you were in Admin mode, that is as i want to do but only once and every time after that have the program automaticly do it for me.
The tecnique can be used for any program. some programs just need more rights than others because of the information that they need to access.
This one accesses a database but inorder for the database to be access it needs an adim right and thats when run as works but i dont want to keep doing it, is there a way in the registry or in options some were in widnwos to make a program automaticly run in the run as admin mode thats all that i want.

I know what Run As command is! Without knowing what software you're trying to circumvent, I can't help you further.

Eric,
You can use the RUNAS command line tool to accomplish what you are trying to do. In a command prompt, type RUNAS to get the usage and syntax of the tool. Then, put the appropriate command syntax in a batch file and launch your program from the batch file. Problem solved.

Does any one know how to use the dos runas command without being on a server, but a single computer with admin and student account.
Edog

Type RUNAS at the command prompt for usage instructions. The "secondary logon" service (in XP) or the "runas" service (in 2k) must be running for this command to be available. Runas is not available in 9x operating systems.
(insert preemptive "XP has no DOS" comment here)

Yes i know that windows xp does not have a dos real mode. But it does have a dos mode that is windowed AKA "CMD" or "COMMAND". This is just asgood for the "RUNAS" command.
If you read the posts above i was looking for a perminate way to do this only once and it will work from there on.
Edog

I figured you knew that. I posted that for the benefit of whoever would inevitably come in here and post OMG NO DOS FOR YUO!
Anyway...I'm not sure I understand what you're asking now. Launching your app from a batch file will, in effect, do the runas "permanently" because every time you run the batch it will execute runas for you. Is this not what you need?
