actually the sequence is run chkdsk /f or /r and then you get a message about can't lock drive but would you like it to run at boot time which you answer YES to and then exit and restart so it runs.

Use the command chkdsk /p /r

/p corrects errors
/r repairs any errors

Use the command chkdsk /p /r but can't be used in normal mode, has to be used in Recovery Console

/p corrects errors
/r repairs any errors
