Chkdsk freezes at stage 2

Hi
I have had times when I forced the shutdown on my computer and it never usually does any harm but this time I always get taken to the chkdsk menu and I have let it run but it gets to stage 2 at the chkdsk part and it will stay on 0% forever.
I do not want to lose everything I have already. I don't really feel like reformatting. I'm wondering if and how I can just fix this so I don't have to keep cancelling the chkdsk when I restart.

You could try aborting the chkdsk test. If it boots up ok, you could then try to save your data.
Of course you should have already had it backed up.
I misread, the post and missed the point that it boots ok. But I would still suggest that you save all your data before trying any fixes.

I've aborted it several times but it will automatically choose it unless I cancel it every time I boot.

If it's a FAT32 drive you could try win98's scandisk. Maybe someone knows of a program that will do a surface scan on an NTFS drive and correct any errors, but I sure don't.
