On the advice of my computer tech, who put in a new MoBo, I scheduled a "CHKDSK" to run at next boot. It did that OK, running a five stage test. However, chkdsk now runs a three stage test at EVERY boot. How do I turn it off?
My computer tech says that my HDD may be failing. It's a real coincidence that the failure started when I ran the first chkdsk.

I suggest that you try a System Restore back to a time before the problem started.
If that doesn't help, do a Google search on 'chkdsk runs every boot' and/or 'dirty bit'.

uncheck evrything in your startup except your AV and firewall and see if that helps.
I presume you have let it run through totally at least once?

chrismr that is like throwing your front door in the burn pile because it squeeked.
Point isn't to silence chkdsk but to determine why its continually running.
William Lockie unless the tech downloaded the drive manufacturers utilities and ran them on the drive, its just a guess the drive is failing. Chkdsk has nothing to do with the mechanics of the drive.
Imagine the power if you knew how to internet search

I concur with #4 above.
First thing, is the PC shutting down properly after running chkdsk? Once it's complete it should remove the registry entry so it never runs again, UNLESS the drive is dirty, then it will rescan.
I wouldn't suspect ANYTHING except its likely your drive is crapping out. I wouldn't blame your tech for this.
Drives DO DIE...sometimes taking data with it, protect yourself.

It appears my HDD is dying. I think I will replace. Get back to you when I know the results.
