Checking drives error

Hi i tried installing XP today, after the normal trials and errors the proggie copies all the files and boots in dos to make me choose a partition, i choose a drive with W98 on it but another folder(i tested with the same folder too), it says checking drives and shuts them down and after 3 secs i get a blue screen with a stop error c043487543 something dll not found, and the pc stays with the drives shut down and u cant press anything but to push restart, can anyone help?
Summary: I right click C:\ goto Properties > Tools Tab > Check 4 errors button > tick both options and proceed. However when the PC reboots Check Disk does not run. Could someone please help with this problem...
