Comment:

I lost power while online. I restarted the PC and the windows check disk utility ran. Now, everytime i start/restart my computer, the check disk utility runs and doesn't seem to find any problems. It says "hit any button to skip" but I am unable to do this and have to sit through the whole process. Is there anyway to stop this from happening, besides reformatting?

You might want to run a HDD utilty (Seagate Tools, Maxblast) and see if your HDD is OK.

Click Start - Run type regedit & press enter. Navigate through

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager

Look to the right pane for the BootExecute entry, double click it & delete all the entries from the value data box, close the dialog box and exit the registry. Also see below.

Sometimes that is a sign you need to "Defrag" Your pc!

also, manually disable the chkdsk on boot feature by using chkntfs - instructions can be found here http://www.computerhope.com/chkntfs.htm#03,
