Comment:

I changed my account name on Windows XP Professional from 'Paul Robotham' to 'paul' so I could use that account with a Linux Samba Server on my network. I now can log in as both 'Paul Robotham' or 'paul' with the same password. The folder used when I log in as 'paul' or 'Paul Robotham' is 'C:\Documents and Settings\Paul Robotham'. When I log in as 'paul', in the start menu it says 'Log Off Paul Robotham', not 'Log Off paul'.

I guess I was expecting that when you change account names that the hard drive folder would change and the 'Log off Paul Robotham' would change to 'Log off paul' and that I would be no longer able to log in as 'Paul Robotham' anyhow.

Could someone please explain how I could fix my user accounts so that I would:
- Be only allowed to log in as 'paul'
- Use the the folder 'C:\Documents and Settings\paul', not 'C:\Documents and Settings\Paul Robotham'
- Have 'Log Off paul' rather than 'Log Off Paul Robotham' appear in the start menu.

Thanks in advance.

XP lets you change user names but they really do not change ecxept at login
try the steps below to change your user to "paul"

Follow the steps below after you have created the new account.
--------
How to Copy a User Profile:

1. Open an account that has administrative access (It can not be the account
that you are coping or the account that the profile is being copied to)
2. Right-click on My Computer and choose properties
3. Click on the Advanced tab
4. Click on settings in the user profiles box
5. Choose the profile that you want copy from the list and click copy to
6. Click browse and choose the location of the new user account profile
(C:\Documents and Settings\*newaccount*)
7. Click OK
delete the old account
