Specs: Windows XP
What would happen if I change the computer and
domain name in XP? Would current users still be
able to log on? I want to quit the domain and join
a workgroup.

Once you unjoin the domain any local users on your pc will not have domain access.

Have you consulted with the powers that be concerning this? Domain membership implies security where as workgroup does not. Wouldn't want you to lose your job over a move like this.

change the local administrator account password to something you know. Then do the domain to workgroup change.

It would have depended on how the users logged on. If they logged on as local users and not domain users then you can simply change to workgroup. In fact if they had been logging on as domain users well, they would not have been able to since you say you don't have a domain.

Just change the computer to a workgroup and be sure everyone logs on as a standard or limited user.
