Awhile back I tried Open Office and didn't like it, so I uninstalled it. Or so I thought.

I went to WordPerfect Suite 11 and I like that very much. But, when I look in IE6 Tools Internet Options and Programs, it still shows I have Open Office, and Notepad as an alternate.

How can I get WP11 to be one of the choices? I used the Find verb to remove all mentioin of Open Office. I completely uninstalled and cleared out WP, as well, and reinstalled it. Still, only Open Office shows.

I even checked with MS and Searcehd the archives here, with no luck.

Thanks for any help.

Bob

Open IE. Go to Tools / Internet Option / Program and change your HTML editor as you like. Press Apply then OK buttons. Close and reopen IE.

Thanks for the reply Robert. It seems so simple. But when I go there, all I get is either Notepad or OpenOffice.org 1.1.3 for options. No way to type in an alternate choice or Browse for one. From what I have read, it is supposed to automatically be there after I install WP, but it's not.

I remember reading somewhere (and I have just checked it) that there are only two HTML Editors you can choose from - M$ Frontpage or M$ notepad. I always thought it was M$ Word :-(

Frontpage is by itself HTML editor anyway.

Hi mesich. Long time no see. Thanks for the link. I feel comfortable in the registry, so I took a look see. I get the Internet Explorer line, but that's as far as I can go. There is no View Source Editor or Editor name. I would be happy to get rid of the OpenOffice entry, but it doesn't appear in the drop downs. Did I miss something somewhere?

Thanks.

Bob

Hi Bob, XpUser, hello everyone,

Bob,

The registry key you listed above is to change the default View Source option within Internet Explorer. That is different from the Default HTML editor listed within Internet Options and the Programs tab.

The View Source is normally opened with Notepad from View within the IE toolbar.

The HTML Editor is accessed from File - Open With within the toolbar.

How you normally open the Web Page for editing depends on which method you want to use.

For the View Source which you are currently working on, you need to change the path to the correct executable.

Currently you have
C:\Program Files\MyHTML\MyEditor.exe

This needs to be changed to the path of the .exe you wish to use.

I use 1st Page 2000 as my HTML editor and have set the path within the Editor Name to;
E:\Program Files\Evrsoft\1st Page 2000\1stPage.exe.

Now when going to View and Source the page opens in 1st Page 2000.

Best Regards,
Mesich

Hi Bob, XpUser, hello everyone,

Bob,

I just read over your post again after waking up the old brain.

The View Source Editor and Editor Name do not exist by default and will have to be created.

Go to; HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\
Internet Explorer

Right click on Internet Explorer and select
New and Key.

Name the Key, View Source Editor.

Right Click on View Source Editor and select
New and Key.

Name this one Editor Name.

Double click Editor Name and look in the right pane for (Default).

Double click on (Default) and insert the path to the .exe file you wish to use.

You could also just post the entire path to the .exe file for WP11 and I will gladly create a couple of .reg files for you that will make the changes along with one which will return the settings back to default.

Best Regards,
Mesich
