Changing Directory at Command Line

An easy one. No matter what I try, I cannot change to directories that have spaces in them like 'Documents and Settings'. The Microsoft website says that at the C:\> you can type: cd \file1\file2\file 3 or cd "\file1\file2\file 3" and have it work...but not for me yet.

Hi You need to use quotes ie cd "\file1\file2\file 3 or cd \file1\file2\file 3"

Well, the main problem I'm having is...
I want to change the name of a directory in 'Documents and Settings', for ie, 'this folder here' with spaces. But the above described method doesn't seem to be working.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

A bit inconsistent. First you wanted to change current folder in Command Prompt, then you wanted to rename a folder.
To rename a folder in Documents and Settings, restart in safe mode and log in as Administrator. Then you should be able to rename the Folder.
Renaming a Folder in Documents and Settings can really mess it up for you. I hope you know what you are doing.

Somebody told me that changing the name of a directory in 'Documents and Settings' can cause alot or problems. A freind of mine who was fixing my CPU and re-installed XP for me was trying to be funny and named one of those folders something undesirable...so I either have to rename that folder or re-install XP again.
What would you suggest?

I suggest you rename it to the original name/name of your preference. Let's just hope the new name is not in any registry key. Post back it you have further problems with the folder.
Sometimes a funny friend is not quite as funny as they think they are.
