Hi,
I recently bought a PC, that was mentionned to have Windows XP Home Edition pre-installed (besides some other software). When I first started my computer, I noticed the b---tards had installed a DUTCH version of the OS (and the other software sometimes in dutch, english or german), i.s.o. an english one. Now I do live in Belgium and I do speak dutch, but I simply do not want a dutch OS. I'm used to work with an english OS and I don't want different parts of a program to respond in a different language.
I have already posted multiple complaints about this, and asked them if they could please send me an english OS in return for my (unwanted) duth version (which could not be all that hard for them), but they simply refuse or do not answer my questions : spoken about a customer-friendly attitude. Now, is there a way I can change the language of my OS ? I was already thinking about buying an English upgrade to XP Professional, but I don't think this will overwrite all previously installed (system) files, of does it ? Or is there a possibility to install the upgrade version without a previously installed OS ? Or is there an other simpler way to change the language of my OS ?
Kind regards,
Dominik.

If you try the help file in XP it explains how to change settings, amazing a help file is helpful, probably why MS include it in their O/Ses

Hi Dominik
At least I can answer one of your questions very clearly.

"Or is there a possibility to install the upgrade version without a previously installed OS ?"
You are thinking to buy a XP-Professional Upgrade and do a clean install. YES, you can do that. I would suggest to reformat. All the different crap they have loaded just will give you problems down the road if you try to keep it. To install XP-Pro Upgrade Version the only thing you need is a CD with a previous Version of Win98, SE or ME. At installation Setup will ask to insert the previous version, after a minute it will ask to swap back and viola, the complet clean full installation will be done. I have done this many many times, it works just as good as with the XP Full version. Upgrade is a full version anyway.
This works with all Windows versions, a WIN98 Upgrade requires a few disks from Win3.1 and will do a full install.Cheers de Peter

Thanks for the helpful response to all those users strugling to convert their OS to another language. In fact, why don't you take the trouble to follow the instructions in the help on how to change the language. I have followed them, and guess what, it does not change the OS language. Even if you specify English as the input language, specify an english keyboard and an english speaking location on a clean install, it seems, if you have a non-english install disk, it just doesn't matter.
Some people actually do read the documentation first before posting messages, others simply may not be able to read the documentation since it's not in a language they understand. It's always nice to see some constructive input from people who obviosuly have not bothered to try what they are suggesting. If you've got nothing useful to post, why bother posting?
