Hi, For the past year or so I have been connecting a Flash Card Reader to my pc. It always showed up as a drive and could work with it normally. One month ago for no apparent reason my Dell computer will not recognize the card reader....the green icon will come up when I connect the reader but the card contents does not show up nor does a drive with drive letter show up. If I plug the card reader to another computer it works well. Funny thing is that I have a portable USB drive and that one works fine on the Dell that does not recognize the compact flash reader. I have done all of the following. New card reader New compact Flash card. Updated drivers Uninstalled and reinsalled drivers Tried different USB ports Reinstalled drivers for USB ports Reinstalled windows but not a complete install. Ran every conceivable diagnostic utility but nothing came back as a red flag Scandisk I have not installed nor removed any programs. Please any ideas would be helpful Thanks Adrian

I'd venture to say that unless it is a very odd mechanical connection issue the almost only other reason could be a fault in the OS or a malware issue. Might try sfc.exe /scannow with xp cd in and see if any files might have been altered. ?? Kind of stumped me on this. Might also see what is says in device manager??

I did that already. to see if any important files had been removed or modified by mistake. It did not work. Device manager shows everything working okay. Funny thing is that I plug in other removable drives and it works. Only when using flashcard reader...neither one works. I'm stumped.
