I'm having some odd problems. My internet is working fine -- I can navigate sites and they will load properly and stuff, except for two instances:

a) I cannot log into Gmail. All I get is a blank page.
b) I cannot upload anything with a web form. Flickr, Kodak Gallery, Mega Upload... everything I try, it doesn't work. The upload never starts and/or I eventually get some sort of "connection reset" error.

I have tried both IE and Firefox.
I have cleared all my caches and cookies and stuff.
I have renewed my IP address.
I have restarted my computer.
I have turned off my firewall.

Last night I uploaded most of the priority Windows Updates that I had accumulated. When I ran AVG scan, it told me there were some file changes. I didn't think they were a big deal since I got a shell.dll change the last time I did a Windows Update. The update also changed my default browser to IE, which I promptly changed back to Firefox -- no big deal. I don't know if I checked my e-mail afterward, I probably did. But I didn't try to upload anything...

I did a system restore point to a few days ago just in case the updates did something, but I still can't check my Gmail or upload stuff.

Also, when I tried to post this message with Firefox I got: "Your browser sent a request that this server could not understand."

When I tried with IE I got: "The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request. Please contact the server administrator, jweber@computing.net and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error. More information about this error may be available in the server error log. Additionally, a 400 Bad Request error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request."

(I'm having my friend post this for me.)

Does anyone have any idea what is going on here? Please help -- thanks!

hi katie,

This sometimes happens when you are using the wrong protocol to try to access a server.

If a server is an ssl enabled server you might be trying to use plain http protocol. Change it to https and see if you can contact the servers. This can be changed in the internet options > advanced tab....just use the restore default settings.

Hope this helps you!

I did that for IE and the same problem keeps happening. Firefox doesn't seem to have the options you describe.

Everything worked fine yesterday. And this problem is in both IE and Firefox, even after uninstalling IE 7 and using IE 6. This just doesn't make sense...

The only things that I can think of is that your security settings have changed some how.

Either you are trying to access the sites from behind a proxy that hides your IP from being discovered or those sites are being purposely denied by some sort of security setting.

It is not a win sock issue because you are able to go online to other sites...that rules this out...

I would systematically disconnect any security features and see which one is causing the problem.

Also try this:

internet options > security tab....click on the icons and make sure the settings are all set to default (default will be greyed out) select apply and ok.

Are you using any add blockers? Try turning them off and then see if you can access the sites.
