CD's not refeshing

Im on windows xp and if i have a disc in the drive. Take it out and change it. WIndows still thinks it is the old disc that was in their before and even autoruns the old disc. Is this really weird or is there something simples to fix.
Oh yea: Im running a P4 1.8ghz,512 rd-ram and the cd rom drive is an acer 56x Model CD 656A

I have the same problem , it means you cannot install an application that is spanned across two CDs and it is a real pain. The only option is to restart the PC :(
I have a P4 1.5ghz processor 256 sdram not sure about the CD drive details

If u open and close the drive a few times it will catch eventually. But there must be some fix right?
