I have 2 CD/DVD on my PC, normally showing up labeled CD_Drive1 & 2 w/ assigned drive letter. Something has happened, I know not what. The label now only appears once as Removable Disk(D:). In the Device Manager under DVD/CD-ROM drives CDWRITER IDE5232 and Memorex DVD+RAM530L v1 are listed with the exclamation mark on a yellow bacground.

I have tried several cycles of uninstalling or disabling followed by a restart, Add New Hardware in an attempt to install new drives including the use of safe mode. But the 'exclamation mark' persists. Driver updates returns a messages stating to the effect that the driver is the latest available.

How can this problem be corrected?

Did this occur recently? If so, perhaps a system restore will correct it.

Are both drives on the same cable?

Have you recently reinstalled WinXP?

The exclamation mark has an error followed by it....please right click the problematic device and select properties....then post the error you see...

I subsequently was able to remove it, but the drivers were not reinstalled on reboot. I tried following the directions from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314...

1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
3. In the navigation pane, locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
4. In the right pane, click UpperFilters.

Note You may also see an UpperFilters.bak registry entry. You do not have to remove that entry. Click UpperFilters only. If you do not see the UpperFilters registry entry, you still might have to remove the LowerFilters registry entry. To do this, go to step 7.
5. On the Edit menu, click Delete.
6. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
7. In the right pane, click LowerFilters.

Note If you do not see the LowerFilters registry entry, unfortunately this content cannot help you any further. Go to the "Next Steps" section for information about how you can find more solutions or more help on the Microsoft Web site.
8. On the Edit menu, click Delete.
9. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
10. Exit Registry Editor.
11. Restart the computer.

But the lower and upper filters are not present

Thanks!
