CD-RW will not play Data Cds

I did a "repair install" of XP to fix a problem due to virus damage (which happened several months ago)
Until I did the repair install my cd-rw was working fine. It played both audio and data cds no problem.
Now it will play audio but not data cd's.
I have tried reinstall of cd-rw with device manager but to no avail.
