Why when I burn a word document it turns into read only unlike when I use a floppy it stays archived and I can modify? And I cant save it directly to CD-RW like floppy it says word command not supported or i/o error. And I cant right click and send anything to incd (nero) it says access denied and that was with the xp burn turned off. Word wont save in CD-RW with native roxio or nero only if I save it to harddrive first and then when I burn it turns to read only
Thanks

Read only is normal. I think you need to read your InCD users manual to find out the difference between packet writing and session writing. There is far too much to describe it here. Do that first then come back with the bits you don't understand.

Thats the problem My nero is OEM and came with my burner and the users guide is empty. Maybe I should browse that CD and see if it is there. But I have a feeling that it was left out of the OEM.I havent tried it with my other PC yet it has veritas and it is way easier to use than Nero. It will append any type of disc as long as it is not audio .It will close them. And it is drag and drop and no formating or any of that and works right along with the XP roxio. I sure wish I had not installed the Nero and spent the extra 40$ for record now max. I am afraid to uninstall Nero after all the horrer stories I have read. I just know it says you can use a CD-RW like a big floppy and I cant seem to make that happen. I will try some more and see what I can figure out . I guees I need to kick the wife off the other PC and see what it will do with the word documents.
Thanks for The Reply XPose

I found the users guide in the form of a book in my burner box. Havent seen that in a while and there are some help files in the burning rom 5.98 or 5.5.98 or whatever the latest version is. So I am in this to learn so I will have to do some reading and experimenting. Thanks for your help.
And thanks to the men who keep this site up.

Ron,
I'm not sure I understand how much you know about the inCD software, so forgive me if I tell you something you already know.
1) To use a CDRW like a floppy you must first format with the inCD software, not Nero's CD burning software.
2) There should be an icon in the lower right taskbar that you can click on to get a menu which will include the format option.
3) The program itself will lock your CDRW into the the burner whenever it detects a formatted disc.
4) Once this is done you should have the right click option on most any file to send it to the CDRW.
5) Even when you see that the information has been burned onto the disc you still will not be able to eject the tray. The software always has to "close out" the disc before it can be ejected.

I have used two different makes of this kind of software, and they couldn't be interchanged and read by each other...bummer.
Also, what happened to me quite often is that the program would hang my computer and I would have to manually crash the computer to regain control. The effect of this was that the "closing out" I mentioned above never got to happen. This would give errors and I would loose some data off the most recent things copied, as well as be stuck with "read only" on the rest.
Now, things which had been successfully written in times previous were still rewritable, but you have to copy the rest back onto your hard drive and then back to the disc again to regain control.
The whole thing was a really nice idea, but it seemed kinda bug ridden. I finally gave up on both brands and uninstalled them.
good luck,
Art

Yea Art I figured that out and I decided to uninstall the Incd part of nero it was useless. The cd-rw wizard in xp works fine and it is like you said after I put it on hard drive I can reassume control.I got all the errors and such same as you and I figured out about the read only on the cd-rw. The Burning-rom and Nero Express work fine. I also found out that Incd is still in BETA that might explain all the problems . I can use the native xp roxio or the rest of nero fine . I was just under the impression that I could use a CD-RW just like a big floppy and it is simialer but not exactly.
Thanks For Everyones Help
