Going to work on a friend's Dell. They started having problems with the cd-rw not working. To short'n the story...they replaced the cd-rw with a new Sony cd-rw. (then they call me) I had them check and it does show up in device mgr. as noted but when trying to "rt click" and "send to" on a file, there is no cd-rw drive listed. i then had them check the properties of the drive under "my computer". There it's listed as a cd-rw but has no recording tab to set properties.
Thanks for any ideas before i head over that way.

check to ensure the correct driver is loaded. I would go to the manfucaturers web site and re-install the diver they give you from there.
Since were not there when they installed it, removeit from device manager, reboot, and reinstall

There is no Send to option for CD burner drives. You need top drag and drop the files in Explorer or use a third party application such as Nero or Easy Cd Creator.

Sorry Kurt but that's how I do it on my machine. No burning software outside of what came with xp and all I do is right click on a file and select send to cd-rw drive. From there i click on the balloon saying that files waiting to be written. That takes me to my cd-rw drive and then I click write files to the disk. Probably a simpler way but that's what works for me.

Interesting, I don't have that option in my send to menu.
You could try this, in Windows Explorer right click on your CD drive and click on copy. Then go to Documents and settings, default user, send to. Right click and paste shortcut. Theat will put a shortcut to the burner in your send to menu that should work.

I'm having the same issue out of a Sony CD-ROM drive also. The drive works fine burning from iTunes, Roxio and checks out using Sony's check utility. The drive has just stopped showing up in Windows.
Did you get this resolved Russ?
