cd-rw drive wont write to cd-rw

i have cd-rw drive LG model ced-8083B and it will not write to cd-rw discs. i dnt know if maybe there is a firmware upgrade or driver upgrade for this but i received the computer with a dead hard drive and put mine in. Also in my computer this and the dvd drive both show up as plain cd drives.

Brian, ============================================= Right click your CD drives in My Computer, then properties. If one of the drives has a Recording Tab, click on it and see if Enable CD recording on this drive is enabled. This may be the problem but could be something else. Peter

i have already checked that i can burn on cdr's but not cd-rw's it saw on the front of the drive Compact Disc recordable ReWritable

You should be able to "Burn" data the the CD-RW disc but in order to use it like a large floppy disc where you can just drag and drop data then you need the companion software such as Nero Burning ROM traditionally comes with the CD-RW software of InCD.
WinXP comes with built in software to burn CDs but does not come with the other software.
You may want to look into purchasing some applicable software for your needs. Nero Roxio Whatever.

I can do the drag and drop with my dads drive though without any extra software. Just with xp.
