My cd-rw drive will only work on certain cd's.Any and all help is appreciated.The cd;s that don't run on my cd-rw will run on another machine.

Try going to either the Driver's manufacturer's website or the Computer manufacturer's site (Dell)and download updated firmware for your drive if available, and then follow the instructions to flash it.
When drives ship, the installed firmware "usually" allows it to use any media released up to that point. Firmware upgrades are designed to allow the drive to use media released since the drives construction.

That is odd, usually Dell has firmware available for the drives they ship. So, that makes it a little harder. You'll need to try and fine the make/model of the drive itself, either by looking in Device manager or better yet, removing the drive and physically reading the label that you'll fine on the top to get the exact model number.
When you have that, go here and check for firmware updates:
