CD-RW drive not recognized

I've just installed a new CD-RW drive and XP at the same time. The CD-RW drive is not regognized. I've researched this, and don't understnad most of what I'm told to do, so I'm pretty lost. I have the CD-RW set as secondary master, and the CD-rom drive as secondary slave. The Cd-rom drive works fine, but the computer doesn't recognize the CD-RW drive at all. Any clue what I could be doing wrong? Thanks,

from the sound of it, you have the jumpers set wrong. is your regular cd-rom set to master or slave? put both on the second ide channel and set one to slave and one to master.

The CD-RW has to be set as the Master drive.

The jumper isn't set correctly on the cd-rw. Just try the different combinations (rebooting after each change). There's only three possible settings so it won't take you long to find the right one.
