Lemme guess....you UPGRADED the computer to XP, and you WERE using Adaptec Easy CD Creator 4 or below. Then you upgraded and suddenly...wow....doesn't work! If this IS the case...your almost screwed, ALMOST. You can go out and spend $100 on Creator 5 and download the XP patch, ooor you can do it tha hard, but free, way. See...what it is is this: Easy CD Creator 4 and below doesn't work on XP...period. I had the exact same problem. And it installs bad drivers that screw up XP. All it works as is a cd-rom. There is hope, tho i kinda stumbled across it...and I'm not sure if it was what did it. Right click My Computer, go to properties, go to the Hardware tab, then click on the Hardware Manager. Find your burner and double click it. It will most likely say "Windows did not start a related device driver. To learn more, click the Driver tab and then click Driver Details." Well go to the Driver tab and click UPDATE DRIVER (MAKE SURE YOUR CONNECTED TO THE NET!) Just let windows do the search for you and let it do aaall the work for ya. Now click ok, restart, and try burning a test cd-rw using the windows xp method (copy a folder, paste it to the cd burner, then right click the drive and click write these files to disk, then let it do the work) make sure you burn a CD-RW so you dont lose a good cd if it screws up. If it burns...pop it back in and try it out. Might work. If it doesnt, just go driver hunting everywhere. Good luck! -Sno |
