Here is the background information about my problem. It was caused when I downloaded new drivers for my motherboard which included a new IDE device.
Once I started up for the first time after my installation the computer seemed to freeze. I noticed it was reading one of my two cd drives for ages. Once I ejected the disk the black screen went away and the computer started. Same thing happens on the desktop, it freezes me up till I eject the cd.
In my other cd drive the cd showed up under my computer within seconds and didn't freeze my desktop up.
Can soemone please tell me what is happening?

I had the same problem and never found a solution. If it helps i found that it only happened with certain brands of media and so i had to switch to different discs. Also i found that if a disc was even slightly dirty this would occur. Some drives are very prone to losing their place on the disc if it is a little dusty.

Should I download the new IDE driver after rolling back to the old one? Or keep the old one forever, because I remeber that it was an Nvidia chipset and asked me when the downloading was done if I wanted to download the new drivers which would get rid of the windows drivers.
