cd-rom whaked since xp

Since Ive installed xp, my cd rom works once in a while. It's seems I can put the same cd in and it will it will run or play fine, and I can put the same one in later and it will say " windows cannot read from disk, The disk might be corupted or it could be using a format not compatible with windows." I opened up my computer to check to see if everything was connected inside and out and it was fine. I tried to find an update for my cd-rom but am having a hard time finding it if there is one. I also ran the harware wizard fopr the drive too. Help would be much appreciated. Thanks, this is what I have... Sounds like you want a new one. I did when mine did the same. The good bit is they are cheap, well they are here in the uk. I put mine in myself it was very easy,and its worked fine ever since. You could try taking the leads off and putting them back on before you purchase I have known this to work. TTFN

buy a new one its sounds defective.you can run a test on it check it out with one of those cds in it while doing a burnin test http://www.passmark.com/download/
