Hey guys, Today I just upgraded my computer and installed soome ram 2 Dimms of (256 sdram) I guess you would consider me a novice when it comes to computer. Everything was going good and my computer works alright but for some reason my Cd-rom stopped working. Im thinking maybe I hit it by accident when I was installing the memmory but what it does. Is when the computer comes on it lights up for just a second but then once your in windows nad you insert a cd it doesn't even try to read it. Its like its like its not detecting that I have a cd-rom or something. Any ideas what this could be and how i might could fix it.

Open My Computer window to see if the icon for the CD-ROM drive is there or not.

Then, have a look at the Device Manager window. An icon associated with the device gives a clue to its status:

•A working device shows a normal device icon.

•A disabled device shows a red X over the icon.

•A device with a problem shows an exclamation point (!) over the icon. Problems can include bad or missing drivers or resource conflicts, for example.

•A device without a driver shows a yellow question mark for an icon and an exclamation point over the icon.

Hope this helps. Bye

open up your case and make sure the ribbon cable is secured to both your motherboard and cd rom, it sounds like you knocked it loose when you installed the ram.
same thing happened to me with a floppy-drive, only of course it was a couple of weeks before i tried to use the floppy, and i didnt think to check the cables right away, anyways, the drawer and lights will still work on the cdrom, as the powersupply is still hooked up, but the interface to the motherboard is not hooked up.
best of luck
