Oh man, this is a problem..right, I know the CDROM used to work as i've loaded stuff on it b4, but i've done something and I cant remember what I did, and now when I put any cd into the drive, I get the message "please insert disk into drive X", even though there is one in the drive (disk known to work). I'm using tweak xp, and i've checked the device manager, and the cdrom is reported fine from there..msconfig also shows that the drive isn't disabled.

thx in advance for any help!

Burning software loads different drivers for your CD-ROM/CDR drives and in some cases causes XP to not recognize your drives. I had this problem with WinOnCD and after removing it the drives were recognized as normal. I don't know about Nero but I have a feeling it causes the same problem. It can also be a combination of using more then one burning software that causes the problems. Burning software is one of the hottest topics giving problems under XP and I bet we'll see a lot of patches coming when XP will be released.

I had the same problem after I installed PC Acceslerator 6000 and Tweak XP and selected some tweaks to enhance CDROM performance. I then did a system restore and I could make the CDROM work again.

although the tweak programs can save u a few seconds here & there, overall they r not worth the problems they can create. Unless u want to waste time & productivity, wait until these programs r more stable or rather not use it at all.

I have the same problem in 3 PCs with Acer CDROMs, I'm thinking is a Acer and XP issue. What CDROM do you have ? Any matchs ? I tried reinstalling drivers and uninstalling software (Nero, MusicMatch) and nothing.
Where did you get ASPI Drivers?

txs !
