Cd-rom freezes Computer.Please Help

I have two cd roms,one is a normal cd and the is a dvd-rom.I have the cd-rom as master and dvd-rom as slave.The problem is whenever I insert any cd be it audio,video,data or photo cd during the tme my computer accesses the cd my computer freezes for some seconds.I have the dma enabled.I have Amd-thlon cpu 902 mhz,256Mb Ram and I run Zonealarm,Norton 2003.Nero 5.5 and Musicmatch 7.2.Please help.

sounds like a incompatable xp driver issue corrupting your windows, did you install any new ones latly and if you did go into safemode f8 and choose last know good working system.

both on the same system that also might cause a conflict with windows uninstall one of those virus programs.

Yes,I run ZoneAlarm Pro and Norton Antivirius 2003(It is new).I have already ran Nero 5.5 together with musicmatch without having this kind of problems.

do you have anymore issues then just a few secounds with that frezze, if not live with it..i just had a long reply on the me forum with a guy that had the whole computer frezze up and the mouse runing all over the screen because on a cd rom problem and his register is corouped bad he cant live with that..

If you insert a cd-rom (disk) that has "autorun" file and that your system's autorun setting being enable, you will see a long delay before you can access this cd-rom disk. Try to disable the "autorun" feature for that particular cd-rom drive. Even with CD reocording software, this still will not affect your computer's ability to perform the cd recording function. Some cd-rom disks are so strange to the point that when the cd-rom drive can not read from this cd-rom disk, computer is just freezing until the cd-rom drive can read the cd-rom disk. Many cases out there that the Table of Content of the CD-rom disk being damaged, or just dirt-filled.
