hello all...
my friend is using a dvd/cdrom combo drive only, and in my computer it shows another two drive icons one for cd rom and the other for dvd rom is there a way of removing these other two drive icons altogether because they seem to be causing the cd/dvd combo drive to not function properly. in not recognizing the correct drive i have a disc in, he doesent know why these other two drive icons are there because they were not there before thanks

In devicemanager, delete all instances of optic drives. reboot. windows will "discover" the new drive and instal drivers. you may need to reinstal DVD drivers from a disk that came with the drive
I used to have a signature but it disappeared and I just couldn't be bothered writing another so please feel free to ingore this.

Hey per. beat me by 6 seconds
I used to have a signature but it disappeared and I just couldn't be bothered writing another so please feel free to ingore this.

thanks for the quick reply he said he done that with device manager and the other two drive icons showed up again. ill get in touch with him now and see if he has any more information on this. thanks again

ok he says that he manually removed the cd/dvd combo drive from his computer and turned on the sys he went into my computer and with the drive removed, them two icons are still there. he cant see them in device manager though. its a bit of a strange one this

Try this. Go here and d/l DEVMGR.BAT and run it. It will take you to the device manager. Go to view and select show hidden devices. Uninstall all the non-used devices. They will be the light gray.

Are you using any programs that map virtual drives such as Alcohol 120, or I beleive Nero also has the option to set up a virtual drive? This could be what you are seeing.

well actually he's using that devmgr.bat now and will let you know in a few minutes how it goes hank...

ok he removed all the hidden cd/dvd divices execpt the one with scsi he wasent sure about that one and restarted up the system and the same icons are still there but funny enough everything on the screen is now GREEN the sys is working ok but its all green colour what the?

Use system restore to go back. He must have removed a graphics driver.

no he just restarted it and its grand now the green colour is gone when he was reinserting the combo drive back into the system he forgot to unplug the monitor

sorry its still the same problem with the cd/dvd drives but he says theres a h+h dvd-rom dvd-41sd scsi cdrom device. and then theres also scsivax dvd/cd-rom scsi cd rom device. the third one is pioneer dvd-rw dvr-106d. the pioneer is the drive that he has originaly

How long has this been happening ??
Just a guess, but look in BIOS to see what is being seen in there. Some setting may be wrong ?

thanks per and all that helped.
he actually got the dvd-rw to write and it works fine now. the pioneer dvr-106d that he is using has problems working with nero and sonic, but he downloaded DVD POWER BURNER AND IT WORKS PERFECT. we checked every part of the www on pioneer dvr-106d drivers and everyone else seems to have the same problem as we did "no drivers" so ill just say that if anyone has had this problem download above program and hopefully it will sort it out for you...
again best wishes hank...
