hello all...
my friend is using a dvd/cdrom combo drive only, and in my computer it shows another two drive icons one for cd rom and the other for dvd rom is there a way of removing these other two drive icons altogether because they seem to be causing the cd/dvd combo drive to not function properly. in not recognizing the correct drive i have a disc in, he doesent know why these other two drive icons are there because they were not there before thanks
hank...

In devicemanager, delete all instances of optic drives. reboot. windows will "discover" the new drive and instal drivers. you may need to reinstal DVD drivers from a disk that came with the drive

I used to have a signature but it disappeared and I just couldn't be bothered writing another so please feel free to ingore this.

Try this. Go here and d/l DEVMGR.BAT and run it. It will take you to the device manager. Go to view and select show hidden devices. Uninstall all the non-used devices. They will be the light gray.

Are you using any programs that map virtual drives such as Alcohol 120, or I beleive Nero also has the option to set up a virtual drive? This could be what you are seeing.

How long has this been happening ??

Just a guess, but look in BIOS to see what is being seen in there. Some setting may be wrong ?

thanks per and all that helped.
he actually got the dvd-rw to write and it works fine now. the pioneer dvr-106d that he is using has problems working with nero and sonic, but he downloaded DVD POWER BURNER AND IT WORKS PERFECT. we checked every part of the www on pioneer dvr-106d drivers and everyone else seems to have the same problem as we did "no drivers" so ill just say that if anyone has had this problem download above program and hopefully it will sort it out for you...
again best wishes hank...
