CDROM drive open & shuts by itself

My CDrom drive open & shuts by itself. I have scanned for viruses & also ran adaware SE. It does it in safe mode too.

Linda Roberts, FWIW, there was a virus that did that. Suggest you try an online scan like Panda, Housecall, etc. Maybe they know sumpin your AV doesn't? HTH. Ed in Texas.

Then do what the guy said above me.
If that doesn't work try it on a different computer to check if it's a hardware problem.
If it's not a hardware problem and the scan didn't work. Do a fresh install of windows.
Summary: take the data/IDE cable out of the drive, then turn the system back on. if the drive still opens and closes by itself, the drive's bad. if it doesn't, then you know it's a software setting. eliminate ...
