Just change the boot order in your BIOS to boot from the cdrom first. Both 98 and XP cd's are bootable. You don't need a floppy.

Thats what i thought, but I seem to have trouble with that, Neither of my disks will boot, but i know that my Drive isn't the problem (ive tested with my bootable norton disk) And i realy need a boot disk that is a CD Rom... Are you sure that 98 is bootable?

Hi CorysProbs,

Justaquickquestion
Is this a legitimate XP CD or a copy of one?

Also, I think some systems need you to press a certain key when you want to boot off a CD. Check the manual or the web...

You can go to www.mesich.com and click How To's and it tells you how to install Win98 by copying files from the CD to the HDD. XP should boot right from the CD when you insert it.

I've Got it! I found the CD that came with my harddrive and it cleared everything on my system, i got my 98 disk to boot up and its in the middle of Formatting... Once thats donw installing ill put my XP on, will everything be odd after i reinstall? Like will i have to put all my drivers back for things to work properly?

And to answer you question svg:
No, these arnt the origanal disk, BUT i did buy the origanal 98 and XP disk, I backup all my expensive disks... My origanal 98 disk was lost back in '99 or '00 and I ran over my origanal Xp disk with my computer chair (boy do i feal stupid) Im assuming its legal to back up your disk right? (i may be wrong) i know Microsoft doesnt like how Millions of people share copied disks.. Trust me i know all about this, but these are backup of my Origanal disk.

I think it's okay to make backups, but you need to make 1:1 perfect copies (because of the copy-protection systems), and you need special programs for that, like Blindread/BlindWrite, DiscJuggler, Alcohol 120, ... (Check the Daemon Tools site for the best info on that).

If you just copied the files, then that may have been the problem with it not booting properly.
Clean, fresh installs are great, but you'll have to reinstall all the WindowsUpdates, and get the latest drivers off the web... lots of work...

Thats okay, I just hope i can get my Graphics card to work as good now.

Its kind of funny, the disk i never backed up was my Win95 disk... And its still in perfect condition.

I barely had anything on my PC, Exept a game called TheSims,Some MSBlaster things and AIM.
Im almost glad this happedned (not realy) because i was having trouble getting SpyWear or my PC.

Should prevent most spyware from installing.

Takes some time getting the system back to how you want it, but at least you'll have a better view on what's on it & what's supposed to [not] be on it. Cheerio!
