Are these commercially produced DVDs you are trying to watch or burned copies? I have had DVD drives that would only read commercially produced disks although they had read burned disks in the past.

Cleaning the lens with a lenscleaning disk did not help and the only solution was to replace the drive. As I understand it these drives have separate lasers for CD & DVD and it may be that your DVD laser has deteriorated to the point it cannot read burned disks.

Also get yourself a Laser Head Cleaning CD. It is a
CD that has tiny brushes on it that cleans your
drive head.
