I have installed Office XP a few days ago and since that moment, my dvd-rom and cd-rom dead. They are in yellow on the device managment list. The Software Plug and play devices enumerator is not working either, is in yellow too on the device managment list. I tried re-installing the drivers but didn't work out. I cheked out the applications events viewer table and got this information: (after tryin to install the SP1 for Office XP)
Product: Microsoft Office XP Professional with FrontPage -- Error 1328. Error applying patch to file F:\Config.Msi\PT44.tmp. It has probably been updated by other means, and can no longer be modified by this patch. For more information contact your patch vendor. System Error: -1072807676.
CD/DVD-rom drivers that can not be load:
cdrom.sys
redbook.sys
storprop.dll
The Software Plug and Play devices enumerator is :
swenum.sys
streamci.dll
What HAPPENED after installing Office XP and How can I fix it. Thanks a lot!

Is it a legit copy of Office XP? I remember on the Office update page for SP1, it says that if your copy isn't legit, than SP1 might not work correctly and cause you to have system problems.

Anyway, the yellow icon means there is some sort of conflict. I think if you double-click it or right-click and click on properties, it'll tell you why it's yellow

Hi,

I have a similar problem. My CD-ROMs suddenly stopped to be properly recognized by WindowsXP with the same symptoms as you describe them (yellow in device manager). I don't know what I can do to fix it. Did somebody help you with your problem? I can't even reinstall the drivers, as I can't put in a CD, of course. Pls. respond to my email address jugger@onlinehome.de

Thanks and regards,

Jugger

Checkit folks .. there is a supposed fix for the error we are having. Yes,I am experiencing Office XP woes myself. I can't suddenly send mail, of any kind! Can recieve fine though. The supposed fix is "service pak1" for office (XP Only)It bombs with the same error code and *.tmp file (varies). I found another way of getting around it.. (Found and used the msi file update method for admins) this updates the XP files and allows the same affect as the serv pack.. that worked fine and it fixed the issue for about 10 minutes, then repeated the failed send mail error. I think this whole office service pack one for XP is bogus, doesn't work for anyone. Why the hell do they realse crap that doesn't work? And yes, my copy is legal, corporate version. On a side note, be careful if ya run this patch, its been known to hose PC's. Be sure your using Office XP (2002) Just my rant for the day Good luck everyone.

I have more than one partition and in both are the pirate copy of office XP.
The funny thing is one the SP1 update worked fine..........encryption for example is increased substantially.......
For some reason the second partition (98) it gives a similar message to what you're getting.

If Bill Gates was to charge less I'm sure people would buy these in droves but at $500 plus (latest prices) .........perhaps he's trying to become the world's first billionaire?

Consider then there are children working in slave labor 9 til 8 for 50 cents a day in places like South America...........

You tell me...........

I had a similar problem last night I discovered the streamci.dll and the other sys file not working I had a copy of netexcellerator which I uninstalled but this did nothing but when I reinstalled the MSI directX 8.1 the problem with the enumerator problem was fixed I am running win 98 so I am thinking mabye it is a bug or somthing that caused this problem as I have been running the same system for over a year now when I say system i mean my complete program files system so its a bug, virus or hacker. Hope this helps you. you will find the error in system information/problem devices ~ I didn't find the problem in my device mananger for some reason.
