cd/dvd player not turning on

Dell / Dell dm051...

Specs: Windows XP
I have a dell with xp system. Recently my cd/dvd player has been acting erractically. If I put a cd in, it will not play automatically. I can hear the motor turning but then it stops with the progarm not loading. If I go to My Computer, then D drive, it shows the cd but with 0 bytes size. If I try to start it by clicking on the D drive, it will not come on.

One weird note-- I have a game that will not normally load in the D drive. But it will load if I click on the game's desktop shortcut icon.

Uncable the ribbon & power to the cd/dvd player, boot then shut down.

Recable & reboot.

If the same CD's have been used OK in the past, it is probable that your drive needs replacing.
