Hi,
I have a Sony Vaio laptop with acceptable features. its a pretty new computer too. The problem is that my CD-Drive (which does say DVD-Rom and CD Re-Writable on it) does not recognize blank cds. The strange thing is that it recognizes every other type of cd (ex. music cds, DVD's) but once i pop in a blank cd, and look under my computer, its not there. its also not recognized in any other programs such as Windows Media Player or Nero. So if someone could help me out with this issue, it would be much appreciated. Thanks.

There are two different type of re-writable CD: CD-RW and CD+RW. Read the manual to determine which of the two is compatible for use with the laptop.

Have you read Sony manual that came with your laptop? It is all spelled out in details for you.

If the drive is a CD-RW, are you using CD-RW discs (as opposite to CD+RW discs)?

Right click on the cd drive icon in my computer and go to properties, and under the recording tab check the allow recording on this drive box.
