CD Writer not working on XP

My CD Writer does'nt seem to work on XP. If I click on the drive letter assigned to my CD R/W drive in explorer, it displays nothing in the explorer pane , irespective of whether there is a CD in the drive or not. Also my CD burner program always says there is no disc inserted, although CD is present.

The CD R/W is an internal writer connected to the Secondary IDE bus.

Can anyone please help me out??

if you are upgrading to xp then you must go to your cd rewrite mfg. and see if they have an updated driver for xp. many peripheals do not work with xp

Some burners have to be the primary.
