How long have you had the computer and when did this start?
What level of user account do you use? Limited?

acer desktop bought 12/06. i did not really notice an issue until a few months back. i called the local store whre i bought it and they said i had to bring in for a "tuneup" to locate the problem but according to Acer - this should have been set up from before me getting the pc to my is out of warranty now so Acer is out of picture.

Try making a new administrator account and log into that. If all is fine delete your old admin account.

I would not recommend deleting your present account since you will lose your desktop configuration.

Follow this how to if you are not logging in under an administrator account.

Allow limited users access to CD Burning:

To allow Limited User's to burn CD's, click Start/Run/Regedit and go to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

Look in the right pane for AllocateDASD and double click the entry. Set the value to 2.

On PRO, this is exposed in Local Security Policy under Security Settings\Local Policies\Security Options.

"Devices: Allowed to format and eject removable media"

For XP Pro, you can do this by clicking Start, Run and entering SECPOL.MSC

Go to Local Policies, Security Options, look in the right pane for Devices: Allowed to Format and eject removable media. Set this option to Administrators and Interactive Users

This comes to you from Kellys Korner

when i log on the box says "Valued Customer" but the store never told me to reset it being as I could get into my pc with just that. i really think they dropped the ball and now won't do a thing without me paying a service call - thank you but your answers seems way to complicated for me... i don't want to burn any cd's - just want to view on my pc either from a download or from a cd I bought from outside.
