Cd rom wont play music

Ok I have a cd burner and a cd rom connected to my system...(the burner is a Ricoh mp7163a)the cd rom is connected to a promise ide controller card (ultra 100 TX2 with xp drivers) all seems to work well....data cd's in my cd rom play ok...till i try to play music cd's on the cd rom then the system freezes......music cd's play ok on the burner.....anyone have any ideas?

I have the same problems. If you found a fix I would be happy to here about it. The only difference I have is when I play music on my cd rom I have distortion.
