i hav a lenovo laptop and when i bought it the cd rom was working fine.After 2-3 months it started reading only DVD's and audio cd's but it did not read recorded cd's and data cds...i reinstalled the cd-dvd drive after uninstalling it..I tried the lens cleaner but no help there.Whenever i insert a cd in it ,it shows the cd as a blank disc even though it has data in it...thus i cannot see any contents when i double click the drive.Please help.

Did it read the same CD's/DVD's before, or, have you switched the brand of media?

Optical drive manufacturers have recommended media references for use with their drives.

It's a good day when you learn something

If you are comfortable editing the registry:
Create a Restore point and back up the registry.Open regedit.
Look for;

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\system\CurrentControlSet\SetControlClass.
Key name: {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Value Data:[Delete all value data from upper and lower filters]
Note-Do not delete the key or the multi-string values. Delete only the data values.
The keys may be in more than 1 place. You will have to search for them.

Exit regedit and reboot.

If none of the above suggestions help then the laser used for the CDs is probably going bad. Prerecorded CDs are different than CDR. That would explain why the drive will read prerecorded but not home made.
