Have you just installed one of the OS? Win XP or Win XP Home?
Have you been changing hardware in your computer? Example the cdrom's.
When you turn your computer on is the drive listed in your bios setup? Can you get to the BIOS setting and check and see if it is there?
Is the drive listed in either Win XP Pro or Win XP Home? Or neither?
Have you tried unplugging the data cable on both ends then replugging them?
If you put in a cd does Win Xp respond with what to do with it?

thanks, i corrupted my computer with virus on xp home so i installed xp pro (unknowingly). my cd rom was working fine for few days and i did manage to clear my pc from all the virus but the cdrom has vanished. i did not change any hardware but in the process of cleaning the virus and worms i may have messed some registry (i am not sure abt that).I do not have access to bios cos of password. I want to remove xp pro once i get cd rom working. if i put any cd in drive it do not do anything as it is not installed. thanks
