CD Rom Drive doesn't work

My CD rom drive doesn't work on my laptop it is a Dell Inspiron 5100 the CD rom drive will spin and act like it is reading the disc, but when i go into My computer and click on the CD ROM drive it won't recognize the disc in the drive it will just say please insert disc into Drive D: so anyhelp will definitly help thanks

Just to add to the previous message what i have is a HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC-4241N cd/DVD/CRRW drive and what is weird is that it will play DVD's but won't recognize a cd So once again any help will definitely help me Bryan
