cd rom doesn't work in xp

My cd rom WILL read if I boot to it but it WILL NOT read once xp starts. I chcek it in device manager and it says that it is working properly but it doesn't read any kind of cd..

It slows things down if you have programs starting and running in the background during Startup. Also when you open programs, things are slower if they have to take RAM away from XP.
Summary: Lemme guess....you UPGRADED the computer to XP, and you WERE using Adaptec Easy CD Creator 4 or below. Then you upgraded and suddenly...wow....doesn't work! If this IS the case...your almost screwed...
