My grand-daughter has a WIN XP Dell computer and some time ago "she doesn't remember when" some of her games stopped working using the cd rom. (Example: Sims) I gave her my copy of Age of Mythology and it installs just fine. When she tries to play she gets "access denied...need administrator rights..." popup message. I uninstalled Sims and AoM and re-installed both with same problem. "older games" work just fine with cdrom, just newly installed games won't run. I went in as Adminstrator (F8 key) and Safe Mode and made everyone have all rights to hard disk (no good) I also installed a hot fix for DVDs that stop working after a DirectX upgrade (no good). I don't know what else to do and I think I am about ready to edit the registry!! Can anyone point me in the right direction? A friend (windows XP PROF) told me to make sure that the user is an "admin user" and also in the "admin group"? I can't find this (groups?) in Win XP Home edition. Where is it? If this was unix I could fix it right away, but windows XP hides everything under the covers and I can't solve this. (Dell say to reformat the disk - my answer was "not yet")
