I was instaling a program and then all of a sudden my dvd and cd drives disappeared from My Computer. Now they wont even run the cd i put in them.

disconect them by removing power cable start up computer then turn off connect power back see if that helps another fix for this problem is going to Device manager found in control panel >> system >> hardware. then uninstall the drives (they should appear with a yellow question mark next to them. then restart comp, when boots up XP should recognise them again in the past this has both worked, and not worked for me...
