My CD-ROM drive will not read or list the files on the CD. If I put in a music CD, it starts playing. If I put in a regular CD, any autostart exe file will run. I can even install programs onto my hardrive from the CD using the programs autostart file on the CD. But when any CD is loaded and I go to Windows Explorer or My Computer and click on the CD Drive, it will not show any files (no files. it isn't just not showing hidden files). In both Explorer and My Computer, next to the CD Drive letter, it will show the name of the CD that is in the drive, just won't show the files. Explorer won't even let me click on the CD Drive letter. When you click on it, the highlite goes back to Desktop. In My Computer when I double click on the CD Drive, nothing happens. I tried to load some clipart from one of my CDs and could not get the Browse to select the CD Drive. This is a new Systemax computer (their tech support is stumped!) running Windows XP. I have tried removing the CD from Device Manager but had the same problem when Windows reinstalled it.
Any ideas? Thanks!

Hy Loyd,
I had a similar problem. The reason was that the Windows Media Player was running in the background. It would play Music CDs but would not read Data CDs. Somehow the Media Player was loaded at startup. The Media Player Icon appeard in the taskbar and after I closed the Media Player, the problem was solved.
Cheers de Peter
